Do I Need FASTag for Delhi? 2026 Update

Yes, FASTag is mandatory for all four-wheeled and heavier vehicles on national highways around Delhi. Cash is still accepted at NHAI plazas, but vehicles without a valid FASTag pay double the fee in cash or 1.25 times the fee if they pay by UPI. Satellite-based (GPS) tolling has not replaced FASTag: the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways clarified in April 2025 that no nationwide switch had been decided, and NHAI is introducing ANPR-FASTag barrier-less tolling at selected plazas instead.

Key Reality: Without a valid FASTag, a car pays ₹210 in cash or ₹131 by UPI at Kherki Daula instead of ₹105. Regular commuters can cut costs further with the FASTag Annual Pass or a local monthly pass.

Where You Pay Tolls in Delhi (2026)

Major Toll Facilities: Delhi toll roads include Yamuna Expressway, Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, Eastern Peripheral Expressway, Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway (Kherki Daula and Bijwasan plazas), DND Flyway, Delhi-Meerut Expressway

MCD Entry Toll: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi collects an entry toll from commercial vehicles at more than 120 border entry points, including Kundli, Badarpur, Kapashera, Loni, Tikri, Singhu, Gazipur and DND. Rates depend on vehicle category (Car or 3-wheeler, LCV, Bus, 2-axle, 3-axle and 4-axle vehicles). Private non-commercial cars are generally not charged.

Environment Compensation Charge (ECC): Commercial vehicles entering Delhi also pay ECC, collected by MCD at the same entry points and separate from toll. What happens if I don't pay Delhi tolls?

Do motorcycles pay tolls in Delhi?

Is the DND Flyway really toll-free?

Yes, DND Flyway has been toll-free since October 2016 when Allahabad High Court ordered no toll collection. Commercial vehicles entering Delhi at the DND border point may still pay MCD entry toll and ECC.

When will the new GPS toll system start?

It has not started.
